Duck Hunt at the Royal Duck Club
This opportunity is presented by Prep parents Bob and Cindy Whaley; Carl and Marilee Oreskovich, attorney, and owners of Lindeman's; and Dr. William and Marsha Bond, owners of Luna and Cafe Marron restaurants. Two men will join Bob, Carl, and Bill for a duck hunt at the Royal Duck Club located on the Yakima Indian Reservation. The Royal is one of the oldest duck clubs in the area, founded in the 1920s. Its membership is limited to 12. There are 16 blinds located over a large property flooded by Toppenish Creek. It is only hunted until noon on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The remainder of the time, the club is not shot.
The winners will arrive at the Royal in the afternoon, stay at the Royal that night and eat a dinner prepared by Bill Bond and Carl Oreskovich, incredible wine included. The next morning they will have a prepared breakfast and hunt one of the blinds with Carl and his dog Tac. Plan on getting your limit of seven per hunter. The birds are predominantly Mallards after the northerns start to arrive in November. Before the Northerns arrive, the birds are a mixture of Widgeon, Mallards, Teal, and some Pintails.
The club is an excellent place to take a son old enough to hunt, a father, or guest of any age. To accommodate those less agile, there is an amphibious vehicle that can take a hunter to and from the blinds with minimal walking. Accordingly, if someone wants to bring an elderly hunter, the club works well.
The winners will be responsible for their own gun, steel shells, license, waders, and clothing. The club has everything else. The hunt is limited to males. The date of the hunt will be arranged during fall 2009 or winter 2009-2010.
